Women of the Bible – Fall 2024

This fall our adult education will be about some people that often are in the background in the              Bible.  We will look at five important women that show faith, courage, and wisdom, and will learn from them more of who God is and what God does.

Oct 8 – Deborah  – In the times of the Judges, one woman comes forward to help deliver God’s         people from a Canaanite king.  Deborah shepherded the people of Israel and gave courage to a fearful military leader to destroy an occupying army.

Oct 22 – Ruth – Faithfulness is not exclusive to the people of Israel.  In the generations before King David, one woman shows true loyalty to God and her mother-in-law even though she is one of “those” people.

Nov 5 – Esther – After the Babylonian Exile was over, God’s people in the Persian Empire faced a threat that could kill them all.  One woman has the chance to make a difference; Esther may be the only one that can save her people.

Nov 12 – Mary Magdalene – No woman in the Bible is more misunderstood or confused with others than this follower of Jesus. Mary Magdalene at times seems to
understand more than any of the disciples; we’ll explore this woman and the
ways she exemplifies faith.

Dec 3 – Mary, Mother of Jesus –  As we approach Christmas we will spend some time looking at what we know and what we don’t know about the woman who agreed to bring the Messiah into the world and how that choice shaped her life.
